She is currently the women's 200 m freestyle (long course and short course) and 400 m (long course) freestyle world record holder. At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Pellegrini became the first woman ever to breach the 4 minute barrier in 400 m freestyle with the time 3:59.15. Pellegrini is the first female Olympic champion in the history of Italian swimming; she is also the only Italian swimmer to have set world records in more than one event. She won the Awards of World Swimmer of the Year in 2009 and the European Swimmer of the Year in 2009 and 2010. Apart from her swimming, she loves puppets and teddies, and music is her favorite hobby. Federica Pellegrini has also featured in the covers of few magazines in Italy. She likes watching Tv, but in small doses.She is not a person who is always present at every event. She prefers to choose carefully among the many requests she gets.She amusingly remembers her guest appearance on Miss Italia 2009 and the interviews given to the children on Bonolis' Tv show "Chi ha incastrato Peter Pan".Porta a Porta has dedicated an instalment to her and, again on Rai Uno, she was the only sportswoman invited to the special event "Affari Tuoi" on January 6 the 2010 dedicated to the Lotteria Italia tickets.
